Updating my Amazon author page -- with a moment of gratitude

I've been working on updating my author page on Amazon.

And, here it is!

Updating a website or author page is one of the many administrative tasks a writer faces nowadays.

Like a lot of similar tasks, it can be just that -- something that has to get done, or an opportunity to look at a familiar thing with new eyes. 

In doing these updates, I had a great feeling of empowerment, and gratitude. 

Writing is my dream, and book of my own are part of that dream. 

Even in the mundanities of Amazon, an author can take a step back and say, "This is my dream, and I am truly living it. It is real."

I'll be adding more features to this author's page, but please have a look.

Speaking of gratitude, it's always a good time for me to express my gratitude to my husband, Derek Savoia. 

He takes my author photos, including this one, and supports my dreams in countless and immeasurable ways. 

For those ways in their multitudes, I am truly and heartfully grateful.

A Christmas of flickering lights, and lives lived

The Annual Homeless Person's Memorial Vigil takes place the evening of the Winter Solstice, the longest and darkest night of the year.  For someone living rough, every night is dark, and long.  I learned of the vigil this past week, while still somewhat new at my job as editor at Worcester Magazine. As sometimes happens for journalists arriving at a new coverage beat, I was "today years old" when, scrolling through Facebook posts, I saw alerts for the vigil. So, I made the trek from my home in Lowell to Worcester to cover it.   Community journalism can't be remoted in. I'm unfamiliar with writing about homelessness, both in cities and the suburbs. On Thanksgiving, taking grief and gratitude to the river side

  It's the seventh Thanksgiving without my husband, Lawrence Carradini.  Like a lot of people who have lost someone beloved, I reconstruct his presence in memory.  Today, I went for a walk along the Vandenberg Esplanade by the Merrimack River, part of Lowell Heritage State Park.  This is a walk we made many times together. What delighted him most were the ducks bobbing on the waters, with their staccato patter, and occasional splashing of wings.  A silvery late November sky ensured shadows and reflections -- the constitution of memory.  I like to imagine a Heaven populated by ducks, and Larry standing on the river banks, talking to them in a language only he and they know.  This, to me, is the right of anyone who is bereft -- and even if merely symbolic, even if merely a comfort to those left behind, it is complete.
