How to treat trick-or-treaters -- for grownups who don't remember
Trick or treat is fun. Trick or treat is awesome. This picture is me, in second grade, in an adult dress that cost my parents $6 -- a lot of money for them in 1973. But they wanted to give me the best Halloween they could, and they knew a realistic-looking outfit would do the 'trick,' if you will. They got it at Bradlee's, a department store chain we once had in New England. I can still smell the popcorn maker. The next picture is me in Salem, Mass., in October 2020, because when it comes to Halloween, I haven't changed that much. So, yes, trick or treat, like most celebrations, is about making memories. Halloween runs deep in my Irish heritage. Trick or treat is steeped in tradition and folklore, brings generations together, and builds trust and goodwill among neighbors.
